Jason Grueneich

Founder/Director

Growing up in Bismarck, ND, Jason Grueneich faced many challenges, including struggles with addiction, homelessness, and a diagnosis of HIV in 2006. After spending 18 years in Minneapolis, Jason returned to Bismarck in 2016, where recovery from substance use began with the support of family, faith, and the local recovery community. It was during this time that Jason found purpose in supporting others living with HIV by offering guidance and comfort to those newly diagnosed.

Jason’s dedication to service led to involvement in the North Dakota HIV community, where they played an instrumental role in developing the HIV Peer Navigation Program and developing & chairing the ND State HIV Advisory Board. Over the years, Jason & the HIV community dreamed of an HIV nonprofit to fill gaps in services, leading to the creation of Shine Bright & Live, North Dakota's only HIV nonprofit organization.

The name Shine Bright & Live honors Jason’s late partner, Johnnie, whose unwavering support and belief in Jason’s potential continue to inspire their work. Shine Bright & Live focuses on breaking down HIV stigma, offering outreach and testing in rural areas, and providing a supportive community for those living with HIV. With plans to expand into clinics and housing for those in need, Jason is committed to making Shine Bright & Live a regional leader in HIV advocacy and support.

Join Jason on this transformative journey as they continue to shine a light on HIV education, care, and community in North Dakota.
